Tuna Jackpot and PGA TOUR share Los Cabos spotlight as Baja 1000 nears
Fishing day two of the Tuna Jackpot is Friday, the PGA TOUR is at Diamante, skies are clear, and the tropics are quiet.
A busy night in Los Cabos
Los Cabos heads into Friday with the WON Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot under way in Cabo San Lucas, the PGA TOUR teeing off at Diamante, and the SCORE Baja 1000 just days away in San José del Cabo.
Tropics
The tropics are quiet. There are no storms out there, and the National Hurricane Center is watching nothing as of this morning's outlook.
Tomorrow's weather
Sunset tonight is at 5:39 PM. It will be 79°F (26°C) at 6 PM, then clear skies, 74°F (23°C) by 8 PM and 71°F (22°C) at midnight. No rain is expected, and the overnight low is 66°F (19°C).
Friday, November 6, brings partly cloudy skies, a high of 86°F (30°C), a low of 66°F (19°C), light wind around 7 mph and no rain. Water temperature is 88°F (31°C). Saturday looks like 85°F (29°C) with a few showers, and Sunday returns to 86°F (30°C).
Surf and Spot Check
NOAA's wave model has Friday morning around 4.8 ft offshore, out of the west at 14 seconds, and holding steady. The Pacific side shows the most: about 5 ft off Cerritos. The Corridor, including Zippers and Old Man's, is about 4 ft. East Cape spots Punta Perfecta, La Fortuna and Nine Palms are about 2.7 ft.
These are offshore model numbers, not what is breaking at the beach, so check your spot before you paddle out.
Fishing
Lands End Charters reported Sunday that boats were back out Friday after Tropical Storm Vance. One crew put three wahoo on the deck and Big Kahuna II added dorado. Cabo San Lucas water was about 85°F (29°C).
On the San José side, Gordo Banks Pangas reported finicky but decent tuna at the Inner and Outer Gordo, mostly 50 to 100 pounds, plus a 226-pound yellowfin on Sunday. Friday night brings a thin waning crescent moon, with light east-southeast wind near 7 mph.
Peso check
One U.S. dollar buys about 18.6 pesos, and one Canadian dollar about 13.3 pesos. Those are market rates. Exchange houses and shops in town usually pay a little less, so ask before you swap.
Qué Pasa Cabo
The Tuna Jackpot is running out of the Cabo San Lucas marina. Fishing day two is Friday, with weigh-ins on the marina each afternoon from 3 to 6:30 PM. The awards dinner is Saturday at the cruise ship pier.
At Diamante, the PGA TOUR's World Wide Technology Championship is in round one. According to ESPN's leaderboard, Chris Kirk leads at 9 under, Nick Dunlap is right behind at 8 under, and a crowd is tied for third at 7 under.
The SCORE Baja 1000 comes to San José del Cabo next week. Qualifying is Tuesday. A free midway runs on Boulevard Centenario Wednesday and Thursday, and the race starts next Friday from Avenida Centenario. Road closures have not been announced yet, and Lobo Los Cabos will keep readers posted.
