Tropics

Clear skies and a busy week on the water open the night in Los Cabos, and the tropics are quiet. As of the National Hurricane Center's 10 AM outlook Wednesday, there are no storms and nothing to watch.

Tomorrow's weather

Tonight the sun sets at 5:39 PM. Skies stay clear, with 78°F (26°C) at 6 PM, 71°F (22°C) by midnight and an overnight low of 66°F (19°C).

Thursday brings partly cloudy skies, a high of 87°F (31°C), a low of 66°F (19°C) and a south-southwest wind around 17 mph. No rain is expected, and the water is at 88°F (31°C). Friday looks partly cloudy with a high of 84°F (29°C), and Saturday is partly cloudy at 86°F (30°C). It stays dry, sunny and warm right through Saturday.

Surf and Spot Check

NOAA's wave model shows about 4.8 ft out of the west-northwest at 16 seconds for Thursday morning, holding steady. On the Pacific side, Cerritos shows about 4.9 ft. In the Corridor, Zippers and Old Man's show about 4.3 ft. On the East Cape, Punta Perfecta, La Fortuna and Nine Palms show about 2.9 ft. The Pacific side shows the most.

These are offshore model numbers, not what is breaking at the beach, so check your spot first. With a period that long, sets can sneak up on you.

Fishing

Gordo Banks Pangas' latest report calls for decent tuna at the Inner and Outer Gordo, mostly 50 to 100 pounds, including a 226 pound yellowfin on Sunday. Wahoo are improving too.

Daliken Sportfishing, out of Puerto Los Cabos, reported Sunday yellowfin of 20 to 40 pounds, wahoo of 20 to 30 pounds and sailfish numbers jumping. Out of Cabo San Lucas, Lands End Charters says one crew put three wahoo on the deck last Friday.

Lobo's tip for the morning: expect it a little breezy with a moderate swell. Tomorrow night brings a waning crescent moon.

Peso check

As of Wednesday, one U.S. dollar buys about 18.7 pesos, and one Canadian dollar about 13.4. Those are market rates. Exchange booths and stores in town usually pay a little under that, so compare first.

Qué Pasa Cabo

The Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot is under way out of the Cabo San Lucas marina. Check-in was Wednesday, teams fish Thursday and Friday, weigh-ins on the marina run 3 to 6:30 PM, and the awards dinner is Saturday at the cruise ship pier.

At Diamante, the PGA TOUR's first official round is Thursday, with the final round Sunday. SCORE Baja 1000 race week starts Monday in San José del Cabo, with the race itself on Friday, November 13. Road closures are still to be announced.
