Los Cabos tropics stay quiet as Tuna Jackpot opens Wednesday
No storms are brewing, big tuna are biting, and the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot starts Wednesday with warm, mostly dry weather ahead.
Tropics
The eastern Pacific is quiet. As of the National Hurricane Center's 10 AM outlook Tuesday, there are no storms and nothing brewing.
Tonight and tomorrow's weather
Sunset tonight is at 5:40 PM. It is cloudy and 79°F (26°C) at 6 PM, clearing to 73°F (23°C) by 10 PM, then a few clouds return at midnight with 71°F (22°C). The overnight low is 68°F (20°C).
Wednesday looks partly cloudy with a high of 85°F (29°C) and a low of 67°F (19°C). Southeast wind is around 11 mph, and no rain is in the forecast. Water temperature is a warm 88°F (31°C).
Thursday climbs to 87°F (31°C) with a breezier 16 mph wind. Friday settles at 86°F (30°C) with light wind.
Peso check
One U.S. dollar buys about 18.6 pesos, and one Canadian dollar about 13.3 pesos, as of Tuesday. Those are market rates. Exchange houses and shops in town usually pay a little less, so ask first.
Surf and Spot Check
Long-period swell is in the water. NOAA's wave model shows 4.9 ft at 18 seconds from the west-northwest Wednesday morning, holding steady.
On the Pacific side, Cerritos has 4.9 ft at 18 seconds, the most swell of the three areas. The Corridor, including Zippers and Old Man's, has 3.9 ft. The East Cape has 2.9 ft at 19 seconds from the south-southwest.
These are offshore model numbers, not breaking waves at the beach. Take a look at your spot before you paddle out.
Fishing
The tuna are showing up big. Gordo Banks Pangas' report this week has tuna at the Inner and Outer Gordo, mostly 50 to 100 pounds, plus a 226 pound yellowfin on Sunday. Water there is 87 to 88°F (31°C).
Out of Cabo San Lucas, Lands End Charters' report from Sunday had striped marlin and sailfish on Monday, and one crew with three wahoo on Friday. Water at Cabo is 85°F (29°C).
Lobo's tip for the morning: Wednesday night brings a waning crescent moon, and with a light breeze and a moderate swell, the morning looks fishable.
