Los Cabos watches Tropical Storm Vance as showers and swell build
Vance holds near 40 mph south of Cabo, showers arrive Wednesday, and a building south-southeast swell lifts surf along the coast.
Tropics
Tropical Storm Vance is the one system to watch tonight. As of the 2 PM advisory, it has winds near 40 mph and sits about 405 miles south-southeast of Cabo, moving northwest at about 9 mph.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Vance is expected to turn gradually north and approach the entrance of the Gulf of California by Thursday. Little change in strength is forecast, and the storm could become post-tropical within the next couple of days.
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect. The NHC says the southern Baja California Peninsula should monitor Vance, and Lobo Los Cabos will keep tracking it nightly. Neighbors on the mainland are in for heavy rain this week.
Tomorrow's weather
Wednesday, October 28, brings showers, about 0.13 inch of rain, with a high of 84°F (29°C), a low of 72°F (22°C) and east-northeast winds around 11 mph. Sunset is at 5:43 PM.
Thursday turns partly cloudy and warmer, reaching 88°F (31°C). Friday cools to 82°F (28°C) with heavy rain in the forecast. Thursday looks like the best beach day of the three.
Surf and Spot Check
NOAA's wave model shows tomorrow morning at about 5 ft at 9 seconds from the south-southeast, with the swell building through the day.
By area: the Pacific side around Cerritos, 3.5 ft. The Corridor, including Zippers and Old Man's, 5.4 ft, the most swell of the three. East Cape, including Punta Perfecta, La Fortuna and Nine Palms, 4.3 ft.
These are offshore model numbers, not breaking waves at the beach, so check your spot before paddling out.
Fishing
Tomorrow night's moon is a waning gibbous, 12 days from the new moon. The morning looks a little breezy, with east-northeast winds around 11 mph. Combined with the building swell, anglers should expect some bumps on the water.
Peso check
Market rates today put one U.S. dollar at about 18.64 pesos and one Canadian dollar at about 13.29 pesos. Exchange houses and shops in town usually give a bit less, so compare before you swap.
