Los Cabos watches Tropical Storm Vance as showers and swell build
Vance holds near 40 mph south of Cabo, showers arrive Wednesday, and a building south-southeast swell lifts surf along the coast.
Tonight's report
¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! It's Lobo Los Cabos, live from the studio, and tonight's show is presented by East Cape Concierge. Tonight, Tropical Storm Vance is struggling out there, showers roll in mañana, and the swell is building.
First up, the tropics. We've got one storm out there tonight, and it's one to keep an eye on.
As of the two o'clock advisory, Tropical Storm Vance has winds near forty miles an hour. It's about four hundred miles south-southeast of Cabo, moving northwest at about nine miles an hour.
NHC expects a gradual turn to the north, bringing Vance toward the entrance of the Gulf of California by Thursday. Little change in strength, and it could become post-tropical in the next couple of days.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but NHC says the southern Baja California Peninsula should monitor Vance, so we'll keep watching it with you every night. Our neighbors on the mainland are in for heavy rain this week.
Before we get to mañana, a quick note. The pelicans outside the studio are eyeing my dinner again. They think I don't notice. But I'm watching them very closely.
Wednesday brings showers, about a tenth of an inch of rain, with a high of eighty-four and a low of seventy-two, and east-northeast winds around eleven miles an hour.
Thursday turns partly cloudy and warmer, up to eighty-eight. Friday cools off to eighty-two, with heavy rain in the forecast.
So Thursday looks like the beach day, and Friday looks like a nap on the rock. A sea lion knows these things.
Peso Check, as of today: one U.S. dollar buys about eighteen point six pesos, and one Canadian dollar about thirteen point three. Exchange houses and shops in town usually give a bit less, so check before you swap.
Okay, surfers, this one's for you. Órale, the ocean is waking up.
NOAA's wave model has tomorrow morning at about five feet at nine seconds out of the south-southeast, and the swell is building through the day.
Spot Check: the Pacific side around Cerritos, three and a half feet. The Corridor, Zippers and Old Man's, about five and a half, the most swell. East Cape, Punta Perfecta, La Fortuna and Nine Palms, a little over four.
Remember, those are offshore model numbers, not what's breaking at the beach, so go check your spot before you paddle out.
Fishing crew, tomorrow night's moon is a waning gibbous, twelve days from the new moon. The morning looks a little breezy, around eleven miles an hour out of the east-northeast, with that building swell, so expect some bumps.
