Tropics
Tropical Storm Vance remains well away from Los Cabos, with no coastal watches or warnings in effect. As of the 3 p.m. Central advisory, the National Hurricane Center puts the storm about 665 miles southeast of Los Cabos and about 315 miles west-southwest of Acapulco. Top winds are 70 mph, and it is moving north-northwest at 7 mph.
According to the NHC, Vance is expected to slow down, drift northwest, then turn north around midweek. Gradual weakening is forecast over the next several days, with the storm fading to a remnant low by late this week. The NHC says the track and strength are still uncertain, so the newsroom will keep watching.
For the mainland, the NHC says Vance brings heavy rain and swells that could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents along southern and southwestern Mexico. Through Thursday, the NHC expects 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated amounts of 7 inches, across Colima, Nayarit and Sinaloa, plus western Michoacán, Jalisco and Durango. Flooding and mudslides are possible.
Baja 1000 pre-running is underway
The Baja 1000 is already rolling locally. Mexico News Daily reports that pre-running started over the weekend, with teams scouting the Cabo to Cabo course. It runs up the East Cape through La Paz and Loreto, then back down past Todos Santos and El Pescadero.
Anyone who sees race trucks on dirt roads or the highway should drive carefully and give them room.
Tomorrow's weather
Monday, October 26, brings showers, a high of 85°F, a low of 70°F and a southeast breeze around 8 mph. Water temperature is 88°F.
Heavy rain is in the forecast for both Tuesday, with a high of 87°F, and Wednesday, with a high of 85°F. Keep an umbrella handy this week.
Surf and Spot Check
NOAA's wave model shows about 6 feet offshore Monday morning, at 12 seconds from the southeast, holding steady. By spot: Pacific side near Cerritos, about 5 feet. The Corridor, including Zippers and Old Man's, about 6 feet and the most swell. East Cape, about 5 feet.
These are offshore model numbers, not breaking waves at the beach, so check your spot in person. The swell has some push. Surfers who are not experienced should pick a mellow spot or enjoy it from the sand.
Fishing
Water is at 88°F, and a full moon arrives Monday night. Morning wind looks light, though some swell is rolling through.
Peso check
As of Friday, one U.S. dollar buys about 18.8 pesos and a Canadian dollar about 13.4. Both go a little further than a week ago. Those are market rates, and cash houses in town usually give a bit less, so check first.
Coming up in Los Cabos

Written from public weather, marine and hurricane data and the organizers' own reports. Surf numbers are offshore model readings, not breaking waves. For official alerts, follow Protección Civil Los Cabos. Got something happening? Tell Lobo.
