Bisbee's Black and Blue is on in Cabo San Lucas as Trudy fades
Bisbee's Black and Blue runs through Saturday, Tropical Storm Trudy is weakening, and Los Cabos has sunny 90s ahead.
Black and Blue under way at the marina
Bisbee's Black and Blue is on this week out of the Cabo San Lucas marina, running through Saturday, October 24. Each evening, the weigh-in happens at the marina scales.
The tournament follows fresh news from the Los Cabos Offshore. According to Bisbee's, Team Tiki Perro Pescador took Top Tournament Team with a 350-pound blue marlin.
Tropics
Tropical Storm Trudy is running out of gas. As of the 2 PM advisory, the National Hurricane Center puts her winds at 40 mph. She is about 160 miles west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, roughly 280 miles south-southeast of Los Cabos, and nearly stationary.
According to the NHC, Trudy should start moving northwest over the next 24 hours, keep weakening and become post-tropical by tomorrow. Her swells along southwestern and west-central Mexico are subsiding. No coastal watches or warnings are in effect, and the NHC's morning outlook shows nothing else being watched.
Tomorrow's weather
Tuesday, October 20, looks sunny, with a high of 91°F and a low of 75°F. Winds are light from the southeast at about 8 mph, no rain is expected, and the water is a warm 89°F.
Wednesday is sunny with a high of 90°F. Thursday turns partly cloudy, with a high of 90°F again.
Surf and Spot Check
NOAA's wave model shows about 5.5 ft of south-southwest swell offshore tomorrow morning, and it is dropping. The Pacific side shows the most: Cerritos has 5.5 ft at 14 seconds. The Corridor, including Zippers and Old Man's, has 5.3 ft, and the East Cape has 4.7 ft.
These are offshore model numbers, not what is breaking at the beach. Lobo's tip for the morning: check your spot before you paddle out.
Fishing
Water temperature is 89°F, and a first quarter moon arrives tomorrow night, six days before the full moon. With light wind and moderate swell, the morning looks fairly calm.
Peso check
As of today, one U.S. dollar buys about 18.5 pesos, and one Canadian dollar about 13.1. Canadians get a little more for their money than they did last week.
Those are market rates. Cash exchange houses and shops in town usually give a bit less, so check before you swap.
Coming up in Los Cabos
Pre-running for the SCORE Baja 1000 begins this Saturday, October 24, according to Mexico News Daily. Race teams will scout the 964-mile Cabo to Cabo course, up the East Cape and back down the Pacific side. Expect race vehicles on dirt roads and highways along the route, and give them room. The race starts and finishes on Avenida Centenario in San José on November 13.
Día de Muertos celebrations begin on Playa El Médano in 12 days.
Sancho's, on the Cabo San Lucas marina between K and L Dock, turns 10 this Thursday. The party runs 9 AM to 11 PM, with The Jacks at noon, Mike Grabow at 4 PM and Victoria Stones at 7 PM. Anniversary swag drops Wednesday at the Bisbee's Shotgun Start after party, with the bar open at 8 AM.
