Tropics

Hurricane Trudy is expected to keep weakening southeast of Los Cabos. As of the 2 p.m. advisory Sunday, Trudy was a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 100 mph. It was about 180 miles west-northwest of Manzanillo, roughly 300 miles southeast of Cabo, moving northwest at 6 mph.

According to the National Hurricane Center, a turn to the west-northwest is expected tonight. Trudy then moves slowly south of Baja California Sur on Monday and Tuesday. Rapid weakening is expected to start tonight, with winds down to 45 mph by late Tuesday morning. The storm could become a post-tropical low by Tuesday night.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect. Mexico dropped all its warnings with the latest advisory, but NHC says Baja California Sur should keep monitoring Trudy. Keep your phone charged and follow Protección Civil.

Mainland impacts

NHC says Jalisco could see an additional 1 to 4 inches of rain through tonight, which may bring localized flash flooding and mudslides, especially on steep terrain.

NHC also says Trudy's swells bring life-threatening surf and rip currents to southwestern and west-central Mexico for the next few days.

Tomorrow's weather

Monday in Los Cabos brings some showers, a high of 92°F, a low of 76°F and an east-northeast breeze around 10 mph. The water is a warm 88°F.

Tuesday turns partly cloudy with a high of 91°F, and Wednesday is partly cloudy at 89°F.

Surf and Spot Check

NOAA's wave model shows about 6.6 ft offshore Monday morning, at 15 seconds from the south-southwest, and dropping.

By area, the Pacific side near Cerritos shows about 6 ft. The Corridor at Zippers and Punta Perfecta shows 6.6 ft, the most of the three. The East Cape at La Fortuna and Nine Palms shows about 6 ft.

These are offshore model numbers, not what is breaking at the beach, so check your spot. It is big surf out there, and anyone not experienced should stay out of the water.

Fishing

Water temperature is 88°F. A first quarter moon rises Monday night, with 7 days to the full moon. Wind around 10 mph plus the leftover swell should make for a bumpy morning on the water.

Peso check

As of Friday, one U.S. dollar buys about 18.4 pesos and one Canadian dollar about 13 pesos, so the dollar goes a little further than it did last week.

Those are market rates. Exchange houses and shops in town usually give a bit less, so check before you swap.

Coming up in Los Cabos

Bisbee's Black & Blue starts Monday out of the Cabo San Lucas marina. Each fishing day ends with the weigh-in at the scales at the marina in the evening.

Día de Muertos on Playa El Médano in Cabo San Lucas starts in 13 days.

Written from public weather, marine and hurricane data and the organizers' own reports. Surf numbers are offshore model readings, not breaking waves. For official alerts, follow Protección Civil Los Cabos. Got something happening? Tell Lobo.
