Vance fading near Los Cabos as East Cape beaches start to reopen
Five East Cape zones moved from black flag to red flag as Tropical Depression Vance weakens, with a calmer, mostly dry weekend ahead for Los Cabos.
Tonight's report
¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! It's Lobo Los Cabos, live from the studio, and tonight's show is presented by Cabo Lifestyle Homes. Tonight: Vance is done, and beaches are reopening, East Cape first!
Amigos, we made it through. Our newsdesk says the roads are being fixed. Here's where the beach flags stand as of today.
Beaches are still under restrictions today: thirty-one zones still flagged, and none are green. Twenty-six are black flag, closed, including El Médano, Santa María, Chileno and Las Viudas.
Also El Tule, Migriño, Palmilla, Acapulquito and Costa Azul, plus the hotel beaches.
Now the good news.
Five East Cape zones moved up from black flag to red flag yesterday: La Ribera, El Surgidero, El Dátil Capilla, Spa Buena Vista and La Gaviota.
So the East Cape is improving first. But red flag still means no swimming, and black flag means closed. Surfers, sit it out where it's black flag. Check the flag and follow Protección Civil. Cuidado, amigos.
And Vance? Fading fast.
As of NHC's two o'clock advisory, Tropical Depression Vance is about ninety-five miles east-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, winds thirty-five miles an hour, moving north at seven.
NHC expects it to become a post-tropical remnant low this evening and dissipate tonight or early Friday. No coastal watches or warnings.
But NHC says its swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents in southern Baja for the next day or so. Its rain is still soaking the mainland, and the rest of the tropics are quiet.
Weather time. On Cabo time, "five minutes" means sometime before sunset, so here's when that is.
Sunset is at five forty-three. Seventy-nine and cloudy at six, then clearing out, seventy-three by ten, and a low of seventy-one.
Mañana, Friday, a few light showers, high of eighty-five, low of seventy-one, south-southwest wind near nine. Water's eighty-eight.
Saturday, eighty-four and partly cloudy. Sunday, eighty-six.
Peso Check, as of today: one U.S. dollar buys about eighteen point seven five pesos, one Canadian dollar about thirteen point four. Shops and exchange houses usually give a bit less, so check first.
Surf! The ocean's finally calming down.
NOAA's wave model has a little over two feet at six seconds from the southeast tomorrow morning, and dropping.
Spot Check: Cerritos about two feet, the Corridor a little over two, the most of the three, and the East Cape about two.
Those are offshore model numbers, not what's breaking, so check your spot, and black flag beaches stay closed.
Fishing is brought to you by East Cape Concierge. Feel a little Baja Thousand with a guided ATV tour, a high-performance UTV day or a UTV rental. Plan ahead and send your ideas to eastcapeconcierge.com.
Gordo Banks Pangas' report from Sunday says tuna were spotty, but one charter landed a one hundred eighty pound tuna at Vinorama, and the Inner Gordo had tuna action over the weekend. Water, eighty-seven to eighty-nine.
Órale, that's a lot of sashimi! Mañana night brings a waning gibbous moon, and the morning looks calm, light wind and small swell.
The eighth Copa Presidente Marlini for local fishers has a guaranteed prize pool for dorado, wahoo and tuna. Registration Saturday, fishing day Sunday.
¿Qué pasa, Cabo? Big weekend around town!
Saturday, Halloween at Sancho's on the marina between K and L Dock, nine AM to eleven PM, with college football, a Spookeasy cocktail menu and trick-or-treat candy stations on the deck at five.
Día de Muertos Los Cabos starts Saturday on Playa El Médano and runs through Tuesday.
Get out there and enjoy it, amigos.
