Bisbee's Black and Blue is on in Cabo as water holds at 89°F
Bisbee's is underway at the Cabo San Lucas marina, Thursday looks partly cloudy, and Tropical Storm Vance is far to the southeast.
Black and Blue is underway
Bisbee's Black and Blue is on right now out of the Cabo San Lucas marina, with the water about as warm as it gets at 89°F. According to Bisbee's, 174 teams are chasing more than $7.4 million in prize money in the tournament's 46th year.
Fishing runs through Friday. The scales at Puerto Paraíso on the marina are open 2 to 9 PM, and awards are Saturday. Today's results will be reported tomorrow night.
Tropics
As of this afternoon's advisory, Tropical Storm Vance has 40 mph winds and sits about 1,150 miles southeast of Los Cabos. According to the National Hurricane Center, it is expected to become a hurricane on Friday.
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect. Lobo Los Cabos will keep tracking the storm each night.
Tomorrow's weather
Thursday looks partly cloudy with a high of 90°F and a low of 74°F. The southeast wind is light, around 7 mph, and the water is 89°F.
Friday and Saturday bring some showers, with highs of 89°F and 87°F.
Surf and Spot Check
NOAA's wave model shows about 2 ft at 4 seconds out of the west-northwest tomorrow morning, holding steady. Cerritos on the Pacific side shows about 1.6 ft. Zippers and Old Man's in the Corridor show about 1.7 ft, the most of the spots checked. The East Cape shows about 0.7 ft.
These are offshore model numbers, not what is breaking at the beach, so check your spot before you paddle out.
On the water
Boaters can expect light wind and a small swell, so the morning looks calm. Tomorrow night brings a waxing gibbous moon, 4 days from full.
Peso check
As of today, one U.S. dollar buys about 18.5 pesos and one Canadian dollar about 13.2. Canadians, your dollar goes a little further than it did last week.
Those are market rates. Exchange houses and shops in town usually give a bit less, so check before you swap.
Coming up in Los Cabos
The Baja 1000 is getting close. Mexico News Daily reports pre-running starts this Saturday, when race teams will scout the course up the East Cape and down the Pacific side. Expect race vehicles on dirt roads and highways, drive carefully and give them room.
Sancho's turns 10 tomorrow, Thursday, with an anniversary party from 9 AM to 11 PM on the marina between K and L Dock. The Jacks play at noon, Mike Grabow at 4 and Victoria Stones at 7, and there will be limited-edition swag and a few surprises.
Written from public weather, marine and hurricane data and the organizers' own reports. Surf numbers are offshore model readings, not breaking waves. For official alerts, follow Protección Civil Los Cabos. Got something happening? Tell Lobo.
