Everyone safe after Cabo San Lucas flash flood; Los Cabos beaches closed

No deaths were reported after Tuesday night's flash flood, but more rain is expected for 48 hours and every beach in Los Cabos is under a black flag.

Tonight's report

¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! It's Lobo Los Cabos, live from the studio, and tonight's show is presented by Sancho's. Last night's flash flood, and the good news first: everyone is okay.

Last night a strong thunderstorm from Vance's moisture dropped about sixty millimeters of rain, about two point four inches, on Cabo San Lucas in under forty minutes, and streets flooded.

At the Lagunitas arroyo crossing the current carried off several cars, and Protección Civil confirmed they were all empty. Firefighters also helped a bus stuck on the Corridor near El Tezal.

Cabo San Lucas firefighters pulled a thirteen-year-old boy out of a current. Meganoticias reports he was checked at the hospital and is fine. And firefighters say there were no deaths.

Safe-crossing teams from Protección Civil, the National Guard, and state and city police are at arroyo crossings. Schools closed today, so check official channels tonight for Thursday classes.

Protección Civil says conditions continue for the next forty-eight hours, with locally intense rain of seventy-five to one hundred fifty millimeters, about three to six inches, for Los Cabos and La Paz.

Protección Civil has every beach in the municipality closed under a black flag. Temporary shelters are open for anyone who needs them, and in an emergency, call nine one one.

Arroyos and dips in the road fill fast, even from rain that falls inland. Never drive or walk through moving water. Stay out of floodwater, it carries sewage and debris. Last night most of Cabo went dark for hours. And Cabo did what Cabo does. Vecinos checked on vecinos, flashlights came out, and we rode it out together. Puro Cabo. Charge your phones, keep a flashlight handy, and follow Protección Civil. Cuidado, amigos.

Vance, as of the two o'clock advisory, has weakened to a tropical depression, thirty-five mile an hour winds, about two hundred miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, moving north at nine miles an hour.

NHC expects it to turn post-tropical within twenty-four hours and dissipate soon after. No watches or warnings, but NHC says southern Baja should monitor its progress.

Sunset tonight is five forty-three. Showers around, seventy-six at six, down to seventy-three by ten, with a north-northwest wind near twenty miles an hour. Overnight low, seventy-three.

Mañana, more showers, a high of eighty-five, a low of seventy-two, south-southwest wind around eleven, and water at eighty-eight. Friday, heavy rain and eighty-three. Saturday, cloudy and eighty-five.

Tío Pancho at the marina says hola. He still owes me a fish, and now he says it's too wet to go catch one.

Peso Check, as of today: a U.S. dollar buys about eighteen point six pesos, a Canadian dollar about thirteen point three. Shops and exchange houses in town usually give a bit less, so check first.

Surfers, with the beaches closed, sit this swell out. NHC says Vance's swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.

NOAA's wave model has tomorrow morning at about five feet, nine seconds, southeast, and dropping. East Cape and Corridor show the most, about five and a half, Cerritos about four. Offshore numbers, not breaking waves.

Fishing: water's eighty-eight, and tomorrow night brings a waning gibbous moon, eleven days to the new moon. Breezy and lumpy in the morning, and Protección Civil has a caution out for boats.

¿Qué pasa, Cabo? Here's what's happening around town.

Día de Muertos Los Cabos starts in three days, Saturday, on Playa El Médano, and the SCORE Baja One Thousand starts in twelve days in San José del Cabo. Check with the organizers for any weather changes.

Busy weeks ahead, amigos.

Sancho's Sports Bar and Grill, on the marina between K and L Dock, is open from breakfast with every game on, sound on. You hook it, they cook it. Say hola to Sancho the dog, @sanchoscabo on Facebook and Instagram.
