Hurricane Trudy Hits Mainland Mexico, Swell Around the Cape, Bisbee's Leaderboard Shakeup
Tonight's report
¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! Lobo here, live from the rock, and tonight's show is presented by Sancho's. Tonight, Hurricane Trudy on the mainland coast, a big swell around the Cape, and big fish at the marina.
First, the tropics. As of the Hurricane Center's three PM Central time advisory, there are no watches or warnings for Baja California Sur. Here's the latest on Trudy.
Hurricane Trudy is a Category two with top winds of one hundred miles an hour. She's about one hundred fifteen miles south-southwest of Manzanillo, about four hundred ninety miles southeast of us, moving northwest at ten miles an hour.
NHC has Trudy passing near the coast of southwestern and west-central Mexico tonight and Sunday, then turning west-northwest Sunday night, away from the coast.
So this weekend it's the mainland dealing with Trudy. We'll be watching every advisory for you, amigos.
NHC expects a peak near one hundred five miles an hour tonight, then steady weakening: about eighty by late Sunday, sixty-five on Monday, and a remnant low by Wednesday.
For our neighbors on the mainland, here's what's posted.
Mexico has a Hurricane Warning from Manzanillo northward to Cabo Corrientes, a Hurricane Watch from south of Manzanillo to Punta San Telmo, and Tropical Storm Warnings to San Blas, Lázaro Cárdenas and Las Islas Marías.
NHC expects four to eight inches of rain, isolated twelve, in Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco, which may bring life-threatening flooding and mudslides.
If you've got family or friends on that coast, check in on them tonight, and send them some love from the rock.
Back home, our weather is brought to you by Cabo Lifestyle Homes, powered by Ronival Real Estate. Kirk and Cindy Iverson know Cabo from Pedregal to the East Cape. Find them at cabolifestylehomes.com.
Mañana, Sunday: partly cloudy, a high of ninety-two, low of seventy-four, light south-southeast wind around seven miles an hour, water at eighty-eight. Monday brings showers and ninety, Tuesday ninety-one.
I checked the waves, the wind and my tan today, and all three are looking good. Órale.
Peso Check, as of Friday: a U.S. dollar buys about eighteen point four pesos, a Canadian dollar about thirteen, both a little more than last week. Exchange houses and shops usually give a bit less, so check first.
Surf's up, amigos, there's real swell out there.
NOAA's wave model has about eight feet offshore tomorrow morning, fourteen seconds, from the south-southeast, holding steady.
Spot Check: Pacific side by Cerritos, about seven feet at fifteen seconds. The Corridor, Zippers and Punta Perfecta, shows the most, about eight and a half at fourteen. East Cape, La Fortuna and Nine Palms, about seven at fifteen.
Those are offshore model numbers, not what's breaking at the beach, so check your spot. With swell this size, stay out if you're not experienced.
Quick one for the fishing crowd.
Water's eighty-eight degrees, and tomorrow night's a first quarter moon, eight days to full. Light wind in the morning, but that big swell means a bumpy ride out.
At the marina, the Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore wraps up today, and Friday's weigh-in was a wild one.
According to Bisbee's, Tiki Perro Pescador's three hundred fifty pound blue marlin jumped to the top of the leaderboard, ahead of Loose Crew's three hundred forty-seven pounder, with nearly two point four million dollars in prize money.
And Bisbee's Black and Blue starts in two days, on Monday, out of the Cabo San Lucas marina, with the weigh-in at the scales every evening.
Those marlin are bigger than me, and amigos, that's saying something.
Sancho's, between K and L Dock on the Cabo San Lucas marina, turns ten! The party is this Thursday, nine AM to eleven PM, with live music and anniversary swag. You hook it, they cook it. Find them at sanchoscabo on Facebook and Instagram.
