Tropical Storm Simon Brings Rain and Big Surf to Baja Sur, Trudy Heads for Mainland Mexico
Tonight's report
¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! Lobo here, live from the rock, and tonight's show is presented by True Tide AI. Tonight, Simon brings rain and surf our way.
Okay amigos, the tropics, as of NHC's two o'clock advisory. Simon first, since it touches Baja California Sur.
Tropical Storm Simon: fifty mile an hour winds, about two hundred seventy miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, drifting northwest at one mile an hour.
Simon's been hanging around like the last guy at the party.
NHC expects Simon to speed up northwest starting Friday, passing southwest of the tip, out over the water.
It weakens as it goes: about forty miles an hour late Friday morning, thirty-five by Friday night, and a remnant low this weekend.
NHC says Simon's track has been tough to forecast, though the models now agree better. It could weaken even sooner.
Through early Saturday, NHC expects one to two inches of rain, isolated three inches, over portions of Baja California Sur.
NHC says Simon's swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents in Baja California Sur. No coastal watches or warnings.
So no alarm bells, amigos, just a wet, wavy end to the week. We've got this.
Hurricane Trudy, about eight hundred forty miles southeast of us, is a Category one with ninety mile an hour winds, south-southwest of Acapulco, moving north-northwest at six miles an hour.
NHC forecasts rapid intensification, a major hurricane Friday or Friday night, approaching the coast of southwestern and west-central Mexico Saturday.
Those are our neighbors, so if you have family or travel plans down there, stay tuned.
Mexico has a Hurricane Watch north of Punta San Telmo to Playa Perula, and a Tropical Storm Warning from Punta San Telmo south to Zihuatanejo.
Here at home, rain is the real danger. Arroyos and road dips fill fast, so never drive or walk through moving water or a flooded arroyo. Stay out of floodwater. Wade through that stuff and your next stop is the farmacia. Charge your phones, keep water and a flashlight handy, and follow Protección Civil. Cuidado, amigos.
As of Wednesday, the state Civil Protection Council kept small boats restricted at the ports of Los Cabos and La Paz. They meet again tonight at eight.
Also as of Wednesday, no beach closures, but state Civil Protection warned of high surf and rip currents. Los Cabos Protección Civil says don't cross arroyos.
Smart stuff. Save the heroics for karaoke night. Now, mañana!
Friday, showers, a high of ninety, low of seventy-five, east-northeast wind around thirteen miles an hour. Water's eighty-eight degrees.
Saturday, showers, ninety and seventy-six. Sunday, partly cloudy, ninety-two and seventy-four.
Surf time, and the ocean is waking up!
NOAA's wave model has tomorrow morning at five point six feet offshore, nineteen seconds, south-southwest, building to about nine and a half feet early Saturday.
Spot Check: Cerritos on the Pacific side, five point five feet. Corridor, Zippers and Punta Perfecta, five point six, the most. East Cape, La Fortuna and Nine Palms, five.
Those are offshore model numbers, not what's breaking at the beach, so check your spot. Big, stormy surf, stay out if you are not experienced.
Fishing is brought to you by East Cape Concierge, eastcapeconcierge.com. Tournament week? They'll book your charter.
Water's eighty-eight, and tomorrow night brings a waxing crescent moon, ten days to full. With a thirteen mile an hour breeze and building swell, the morning looks bumpy.
The Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore is on this week out of the Cabo San Lucas marina!
According to Bisbee's, Wednesday's top fish was Alex Moherek's one hundred two point three pound yellowfin. Linda Gale led releases with nine hundred twenty-five points.
And Black and Blue starts in four days. Check with the organizers for any weather changes.
