Hurricane Simon Weakening Off Los Cabos, Rain and Big Surf Ahead, Plus Trudy Down South

Wednesday, October 14Watch on YouTube

Tonight's report

¡Buenas noches, Los Cabos! Lobo here, live from the rock, and tonight's show is presented by East Cape Concierge. Tonight, Hurricane Simon, and Trudy way down south.

Okay amigos, Simon. Here's the latest, nice and calm, as of the two o'clock advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Simon is a Category one hurricane, seventy-five mile an hour winds, about two hundred seventy miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, drifting southwest at three miles an hour. It's a very small hurricane, with tropical-storm-force winds reaching only about thirty-five miles from the center.

NHC expects slow, erratic drifting through Thursday night, then a turn north or north-northwest by Friday. Their track passes west of the southern tip late Friday into Saturday, with Simon weakening to a tropical storm by then. NHC says the track models still disagree, so this can shift.

Through early Saturday, NHC expects one to two inches of rain, isolated three inches, over parts of Baja California Sur, plus life-threatening surf and rip currents. No coastal watches or warnings yet, but watches or warnings may be required for portions of Baja California Sur over the next day or two.

Bottom line: small storm, weakening as it gets closer, but the rain and the surf are real. Check the updates mañana.

Now Trudy, far to the south.

As of the three o'clock Central time advisory, Tropical Storm Trudy has sixty-five mile an hour winds, about three hundred forty-five miles south of Acapulco, heading west-northwest. NHC forecasts steady to rapid strengthening into a major hurricane on Friday, and it could approach the coast of southwestern Mexico on Saturday.

For our neighbors, watches will likely be required tonight or Thursday for parts of southwestern and west-central Mexico, with two to four inches of rain, isolated six inches, between Guerrero and Jalisco.

Okay, real talk. Even a weakening storm's rain is the real danger here. Arroyos and dips in the road fill fast, even from rain up in the mountains. Never drive or walk through moving water or a flooded arroyo. Stay out of floodwater, too. You never know what's floating by, so no gracias. Charge your phones, keep water and a flashlight handy, and follow Protección Civil. Cuidado, amigos.

Here at home tonight.

As of today, state Civil Protection kept small boats restricted at the ports of Los Cabos and La Paz because of Simon, and meets again Thursday at eight PM. No beach closures reported, but they warn of high surf and rip currents. Los Cabos Protección Civil says take extra care at beaches, don't cross arroyos, skip risky activities.

Mañana's weather is brought to you by True Tide AI, truetideai.com. Local AI that answers your customers' calls and texts in seconds, even in the middle of the night.

Thursday, showers, high ninety-one, low seventy-four, northwest wind around nine. Water's eighty-six degrees. Friday, showers, eighty-nine, northeast wind around fourteen. Saturday, showers, eighty-nine, low seventy.

Hot and soggy, amigos. Sunscreen and umbrella, same bag.

Surf time, amigos, and it's a stormy one.

NOAA's wave model has about six feet at fifteen seconds from the west-southwest tomorrow morning, holding steady. Spot Check: Pacific side by Cerritos, five point seven feet. Corridor, Zippers and Punta Perfecta, six feet, the most swell. East Cape, La Fortuna and Nine Palms, five and a half. Offshore model numbers, not what's breaking, so check your spot.

Big, stormy surf. Stay out if you are not experienced.

Fishing: water's eighty-six, and tomorrow night's a waxing crescent, eleven days to the full moon. Light northwest breeze, but six feet of swell, so a lumpy morning.

Órale, it's tournament week in Cabo, amigos!

Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore is on now out of the Cabo San Lucas marina through Saturday, with the scales at the marina in the evening. Black and Blue starts in five days. Check with the organizers for any weather changes.
